Saint Gaspar del Bufalo

Gaspar Melhior Balthazar del Bufalo was born on 6 Jan. 1786 in Rome. His parents were Annunziata and Antonio del Bufalo. The father was a chef in the home of the Altieri family.

Gaspar was devoted to helping the sick and poor, founded religious organizations for young people who did charity work as well. He became a priest in 1808.

Gaspar del Bufalo refused to serve Napoleon Bonaparte and was exiled in 1809 as a result of that. The priest founded the Missionaries of the Precious Blood - the priest members of that society established missionary houses and preached on the streets.

Gaspar died on 28 Dec. 1837. He was canonized by Pope Pius XII on 12 June 1954.

Saint Gaspar del Bufalo's feast days are 28 December and 12 October.

The back of the card contains the word from Priest Jarosław Jabłoński, provincial (a major superior) of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in Czestochowa, Poland.
