Silver Jubilee of Priest Jastak
Priest Hilary Jastak was the rector of our parish church in Gdynia, Poland.
He was born on 13 April 1914 in Koscierzyna. Priest Jastak was the Chaplain of the Solidarity movement, Doctor of Theologie, Major of the Polish Army, and Lieutenant Commander of Polish Navy. besides that, he was also a prelate of the Catholic Church.
Hilary Jastak was ordained to the priesthood on 7 June 1941 in Warsaw. He became the rector of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in 1949. Priest Jastak was known of his charity work as well. He died on 17 Jan. 2000 in Gdynia.
When I was a primary school girl, children of our RE group together with our priest who ran the RE classes visited Priest Jastak on his birthdays. The visit was usually brief as we went to greet him and sing Happy Birthday for him (the song in Polish is called "100 years!"). The rector treated us with some candy and cookies, and it was always nice.
The card was issued in 1966 as a token on his Silver Priesthood Jubilee (25 years of the priesthood).
