Saint Rosalia

Rosalia was born in Palermo, Sicily to prince Sinibald and a noble lady Quisquina in 1130.
When it was time for her to get married, Rosalia chose to become a hermit and live in a cave on the Sicilian Mount Pellegrino instead. The woman died in the cave in 1066.

In 1624, when a plague was killing the citizens of Palermo, Rosalia appeared to two local persons with a message to bring her bones to Palermo and carry them in a special procession through the city.
It was done as she asked and soon the plague ended. Since then, Rosalia has been the saint patroness of Palermo.

The lady was canonized by pope Urban VIII in 1630.

Saint Rosalia's feast day is observed on 14 July and on 4 September (the day of pilgrimage to Mount Pellegrino).

Her attributes are a cross, a skull, a wreath made of roses, a cave and a bunch of lilies. Rosalia is also the saint patroness of El Hatillo, Zuata and Anzoategui which are towns in Venezuela.
